Piper Carter is a freelance Fashion Photographer. She was featured on Tyra Banks’ VH1 show “The Shot” and came out as one of the final 7 contestants. Carter had the best picture four times (out of four episodes), and I was chosen as team leader twice. She recognizes it as a great experience and reinforced her passion for photography. Carter was featured in OK! Magazine, TV Guide, US Weekly, Sirius Radio, XM Radio, style.com, Bluefly.com’s fashion blog, beautychatblog.com, worshipworthy.com, musemagazine.blogspot.com, piercemattiepublicrelations.com and styleaholics.com Throughout her career, Carter has shot editorials for British Elle, New York Times, Trace, Spin and other publications including emerging talent for Island Def Jam Music Group. Her commercial experience consists of ad Campaigns for McCann Erickson, Candies, The Ad Council and Vanilla Star Jeans. Graduating from FIT in May 2007 with her BFA in Photography & Digital Media, she completed an internship at Vogue Magazine in the Photo Department assisting the photo research team with editorial content for the magazine and the Poiret exhibition which was featured Summer 2007 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Costume Institute. Carter has covered behind the scenes of the Fall 2007 collections at Olympus Fashion Week for AOL’s Stylelist.com and the Spring 2008 & Fall 2008 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in New York. Carter’s videos of the Maria Cornejo collection were featured on French Vogue’s website the past three seasons and her beauty work was presented in the October and November 2007 issues of Essence Magazine. Her editorial fashion work was also presented in SixDegreesMag.com. Essence Magazine featured Carter as a judge for the Essence Beauty Awards for March 2009 and she shot the cast of the upcoming show Harlem Heights which will be featured on BET February 2009. Carter believes that video is the new photography and she sees fashion editorial headed onto the internet. Carter worked as a freelance assistant for many of the top photographers in the world, and as a studio assistant at three of the top studios in the world: Pier 59, Industrial, and Splash Light Studios in New York City. She was also assistant to Steven Klein for three years. In May 2010 Piper became Co-Owner of 5 E Gallery in Detroit, Michigan. She is a member of the Digital Justice Coalition and Co-Founder of We Found Hip-Hop “dedicated to celebrating women in Hip Hop”. Piper recently became Co-Chair of BravoBravo! 2011.
