2nd Annual Hip Hop Studies Symposium Presented by Virginia Union University, Virginia State University, and Hip Hop Education Center

In May 2022, Virginia Union University (VUU) and Virginia State University (VSU) in collaboration with the Hip-Hop Education Center (HHEC) joined forces to present “My Philosophy: The Rise of Hip Hop Studies in the Academy” Symposium. Although it was a four-hour virtual event, there were 24 speakers and over 85 Attendees. Participants included Dr. Mark Anthony Neal, Dr. Murray Forman, Dr. Joycelyn Wilson, Jason Rawls, Sha-Rock, Dr. A.D. Carson, and Christopher “Play” Martin.

For the 2nd edition of the Hip Hop Studies Symposium the theme will be HEY YOUNG WORLD: HIP-HOP CELEBRATES 50 YEARS!. Scholars, artists, students, and activists will once again come together to reflect and present groundbreaking research, archives, and achievements in the Academy.
