Who We Are

Catalyzing social change and educational equity through Hip-Hop.

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by catalyzing social change and educational equity through transnational research, curated curricula, collaborative programming, career and leadership training, and the development of a living archive.

Our vision is to cultivate and elevate Hip-Hop education and make it accessible to all — particularly system-impacted and underserved youth.

Over the past 16 years, HHEC has designed and implemented innovative programs serving educators, students, artists, and cultural workers across the United States and internationally.

The Opportunity

HHEC is seeking a part-time Grant Writer to help secure the funding that powers our work.

This is a role for someone who believes in the mission — someone who understands Hip-Hop is not just culture, it is curriculum.

You will work closely with the Executive Director and President to research funders, craft compelling proposals, and manage a growing grant pipeline.

We pursue grants ranging from:

$5,000–$250,000

Across private foundations, government agencies, and corporate giving programs.

Your words will open doors.


What You’ll Do

Prospect & Research
Research aligned funders and maintain grant pipelines.
Write & Submit
Draft LOIs, proposals and reports.
Manage & Track
Track deadlines and compliance requirements.
Collaborate
Contribute to strategy and participate in check-ins.

Who You Are

Required

  • Personal connection to Hip-Hop culture
  • 1–3 years nonprofit grant writing experience
  • Arts and education funding familiarity
  • Strong storytelling ability
  • Independent and deadline-driven
  • Google Workspace proficiency

Preferred

  • Government grant experience
  • NYC funder familiarity
  • Experience with organizations under $500K budgets
